Annapurna Base Camp Trek 12 Days

This 12-day trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp is a combination of two different trekking trails fused as one. The Ghorepani Poonhill Trek and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek.

You will get a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view of the giant mountain peaks such as Bahari Shikhar, Hiuchuli, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri ranges, Tukuche peak, Annapurna I,II,III,IV, Lamjung Himal, Mount Manaslu ranges, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail mountain) and other series of mountain ranges from Poon Hill.

The views are spectacular and it will engulf you with its captivating beauty. And when the skies are clear, nothing will go wrong.

Furthermore, the trekking offers beautiful landscapes, thick lush rhododendron forests, exotic and rare biodiversity and ethnic local settlements.

The trekking starts from the beautiful city of 7 lakes, Pokhara. The next day, the real trekking starts after a short drive to Nayapul and then the trail stretches through dense rhododendron forests alongside Modi Khola. Then you will pass through a lot of villages and stops to enjoy the breathtaking scenic views of snow-capped mountains all the way. You will then reach the Annapurna Base Camp on the 7th day which is at an altitude of 4,130 m. When the weather is right, the magnificent 360-degree panoramic view of high mountains and icy glaciers along with green forests with flowers blooming everywhere is spectacular.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Travel to Pokhara

Altitude: 820 m/2,700 ft

Distance: 200 km

Travel hour: 6-7 hours

The first day of your trekking starts after 6 to 7 hours of scenic bus drive towards Pokhara. An early morning short walk to the bus station with your luggage and you are all set to go. One of the main attraction of Pokhara the magnificent Fewa Lake. You can sit back and relax all the way till you reach Pokhara through Prithvi Highway.

You will be able to explore the variety of scenic landscapes along the highway along all the way. After you reach Pokhara, you will stay at your hotel, freshen up and stroll around Fewa Lake in the evening. It is a peaceful area to be around to spend some quality time. Have a good night’s sleep and get ready for trekking the following day.

Day 02: Drive to Nayapul and trek to Hile

Altitude: 1,430 m

Distance:

Travel hour: 1.5-2 hours

Walking hour: 3-4 hours

After early breakfast in Pokhara, you will take a short ride to Nayapul before you start walking. The drive normally takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. You will then trek to Hile, passing through the Modi Khola with the beautiful view of small villages, hills, and mountains. After a hike of 3 to 4 hours, you will finally reach Hile.

You can spend your time in the village and you will spend the night here.

Day 03: Trek from Hile to Ghorepani

Altitude: 2,840 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 6-7 hours

After breakfast, you will be passing through a small village named Tikhedhunga (1,577 m) and then Ulleri (2,070 m). Ulleri is famous for its stone staircase which has an inclination of more than 45 degrees, thus the name Ulleri due to the steep hill.

The entire area from this point on is inhabited by Magar people. They have their unique culture, tradition, and lifestyle. They keep their surroundings clean, that too at such high altitude, they are a group of hard-working people. The trekking trail is full of beautiful oak and rhododendron forests. After hours of uphill, you will finally reach a peaceful and clean village, Ghorepani (2,840 m). You will enjoy your good night’s rest here and sleep early as you will have to wake up before the dawn breaks.

Day 04: Hike up to Poon Hill for sunrise and trek to Tadapani

Altitude: 2,610 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 5-6 hours

Today’s journey is a special one for you. You will have to wake up early in the morning before sunrise to hike up to one of the most beautiful places in the Annapurna region called Poon Hill (3,210 m).

It will take around 45 to 60 minutes to hike up the hill from Ghorepani. Poon Hill is famous for the best near 360-degree panoramic view of the entire Annapurna region. The sunrise view from this point is heavenly. The sunrays on the horizon, rising up to light up the mountains is a remarkable lifetime event.

You will be able to get the spectacular view of the Annapurna South to Bahari Shikhar, Hiuchuli, Nilgiri, Dhaulagiri ranges, Tukuche peak, Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Lamjung Himal, Mt.Manaslu ranges, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and others mountain range from Poon Hill.

After spending some time in Poon Hill, you will return back to Ghorepani for your breakfast and then trek to Tadapani (2,610 m). You will be ascending to Duerali from Ghorepani and then up and down the hills till you reach Tadapani. You will come across a lot of small streams and waterfalls with a forest full of pine and rhododendron. You will then have your dinner and stay overnight.

Day 05: Trek from Tadapani to Sinuwa

Altitude: 2,340 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 6-7 hours

Today’s journey is about descending, descending towards Sinuwa(2,340 m). This takes anywhere from 6 to 7 hours. Trekking along the beautiful rhododendron forests and exploring the traditional Gurung village is the main attraction of today’s trekking. You will be able to explore the unique lifestyle, culture, tradition and gesture and hospitality of the Gurung people in this region. As you will be taking a downhill today, you will have a quite comfortable trekking experience today till you reach Chhomrong (2,140 m). It’s lunchtime at Chhomrong and after that, you will be ascending towards Sinuwa where you will stay overnight and get ready for tomorrow’s strenuous journey.

Day 06: Trek from Sinuwa to Himalaya Hotel

Altitude: 2,900 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 5-6 hours

After an early breakfast, you will trek to your next destination, Himalaya Hotel. The estimated trekking hours today would be anywhere from 5-6 hours. You will first have to descend till you reach the river Chhomrong Khola and then ascend thereon. We will walk through the dense forests for a while then take a downhill till you reach a gorge called Dovan. Many people rest here for the night but our best efficient trekking routes set its best stop at Himalaya Hotel (2,900 m). We will head to our stop. You will stay overnight here and prepare for the Annapurna Base Camp the next day.

Day 07: Trek from Himalaya Hotel to Annapurna Base Camp

Altitude: 4,130 m/13,546 ft

Distance: 10 km

Walking hour: 5-6 hours

After breakfast at Himalaya Hotel, you will be heading towards the main destination point of this trekking journey, the Annapurna Base Camp. As the altitude increases, the green vegetations are now scarce and you can only see some alpine scrub and grasses.

You will ascend towards Deurali (3,230m). After a while, the trail heads over a ridge and climbs up to the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m). You can rest and have lunch here. Hereon after two hours of slow trekking, you will reach your final destination of this trek, the Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m).

After reaching the base camp, you can enjoy and explore the beautiful mountain view up-close than ever before. The overwhelming sunset view from the base camp in the Himalayan range is worth all the hardships. You will get to explore the up-close view of the glacier and the mountains such as Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail and other surrounding mountain peaks.

Day 08: Trek to Bamboo (2,345m)

Altitude: 2,345 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 6-7 hours

After breakfast, we will get ready for our descend. We will pass through the same way down to a beautiful place called Bamboo. It will take anywhere from 6 to 7 hours to trek today. The descend till the bank of the Modi Khola is a wonderful experience. It is a downhill trek at an altitude of 1,700 m. Then you will ascend a bit towards Bamboo (2,345 m). You will have plenty of time so enjoy your time exploring the beautiful place Bamboo. Take your time to explore the socio-cultural lifestyle of the people there. Overnight at Bamboo.

Day 09: Trek to Jhinu Danda (1,760m)

Altitude: 1,760 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 5-6 hours

Today too, the trekking trail is all about descending. You will reach towards Khuldi Ghar after a short walk. The place is popular for experimental sheep farming. Following the stone steps from here, you will walk down to Sinuwa. The trail is filled with enchanting rhododendron and bamboo forests.

You will trek downhill and then finally uphill to Chhomrong village. From Chhomrong, the trekking route again descends very steeply towards the village of Jhinu. You can explore the village and enjoy the hot spring bath here. Hot springs are a great way to relieve the strains in your muscles, it is extra relaxing especially after the strenuous journey you have taken. After a proper rest and refreshment, we will stay overnight at Jhinu Danda.

Day 10 : Trek to Pothana (1990m)

Altitude: 1,990 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 6-7 hours

After an early morning breakfast, you are all set to walk to your next destination for the day, Pothana. After crossing the Modi river, the trail passes through a beautiful settlement of Landrunk village along with Tolka village and a magnificent walk through an oak forest.

After about 6 to 7 hours of walking, you will finally reach Pothana. The place gives you chance to explore the amazing views of the spectacular mountains and hills that surround you. You can explore the traditional villages, enjoy the local cuisines, explore the culture. We will rest here for the night. You can enjoy the beautiful sunset in the mountain.

Day 11 : Trek down to Phedi (1,100m) and back to Pokhara

Altitude: 1,100 m

Distance:

Walking hour: 2-3 hours

Travel hour: 1.5-2 hours

Today marks as the last day of your trekking journey on foot. After breakfast, you will slowly descend towards Phedi (1,500 m) which will only take around 2 to 3 hours. Enjoy your view of the mountains. Take all the time to enjoy the journey and the trekking trails. After reaching Phedi, we will rest for a while and then finally ride back to Pokhara where you will stay overnight in your luxurious hotel. If you reach Pokhara early, do take the time to explore this beautiful city. It has a lot to offer. If you wish to relax, there are a lot of spas that you can indulge in. Pokhara is highly tourist friendly so feel free to get around.

Day 12 : Drive back to Kathmandu

Altitude: 1,300 m/4,264 ft

Distance: 200 km

Walking hour: 6-7 hours

After breakfast, you will be driven back to Kathmandu taking the same route. Recalling your trekking memory and remembering the experiences you had in the Himalayas, you will soon reach the capital, Kathmandu. You will be then transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu after a long scenic drive.

If you have time, you can go shopping and collect souvenirs before you head back to the hotel again. You will be offered a farewell dinner. Rest for the night as your 12 day Annapurna base Camp Trek ends here, today. You can head back home tomorrow or if you want to trek or take a trip anywhere, we can arrange that too.
