Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing
2200

Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek with Island peak takes you not only to the renowned Base Camp of the highest mountain in the world but also to an exciting adventure of mountain climbing. Island Peak, at the height of 6,189m, is popular among the novice climbers and is used as a preparation for higher mountains like Everest. Though physically demanding, it is less technical and can be climbed by anyone reasonably fit.

The trek will begin after a short flight to Lukla. The trails will take you to Phakding, a UNESCO World Heritage Site (Sagarmatha National park) in the green valley of Dudh Koshi, and then to the famous Namche Bazzar where we will spend two nights for acclimatization. Trekking will continue from Tengboche to Pheriche to Lobuche; these culturally rich Sherpa villages are full of Chortens, Mani Walls, museum and amazing views of the Himalayas. Before the awaited Island Peak, we will visit the Everest Base Camp and climb up Kalapathar. The Kalapathar is popular among the trekkers as one can get a full base to top view of Mount Everest on sunrise or sunset view. Finally, we will trek to the base camp of Island Peak and summit it on the 15th day. Island Peak was named so due to its position at the center of the Valley, like an Island in a sea of ice. Its local name is Imja Tse. The hard work is well awarded by a 360 degree panorama view with mountains like Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Makalu. From there, we will trek back up and down until the exciting experience of Everest Base Camp Trek with Island peak comes to an end back in Kathmandu. We also offer the famous Everest Base Camp trekking.

Important Note:

Itinerary

Day 1
Flight to Lukla (2,804m) | Short Trek to Phakding (2610m)
We will take a 30min flight to Lukla early in the morning, in which you will get the first glimpse of the mountains. Porters will be introduced at the airport. Then, after breakfast, we will trek towards Phakding through the Dudh Kosi Valley crossing few local style suspension bridges. You will admire the mountains and the green valley, colorful prayer flags and stacks of Mani stones on the way. After this 2-3 hour trek, you will have the rest of the day to explore the village in Phakding.
Day 2
Trek to Namche Bazzar (3,440m)
We will head towards Namche Bazzar. After a short leisurely hike across several suspension bridges, we will climb up to the Sagarmatha National Park entrance, where they will check permits. Then we will climb for 2-3 hours to Namche. There will be two viewing spots where you will get your first look at the Mount Everest.
Day 3
Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazzar (3,440m)
‘Climb high, sleep low’ is the motto to avoid Acute Mountain Sickness. Most of the trekkers show the first sign of AMS in or near Namche. Therefore, the day will be spent hiking up and coming back for the night to acclimatize. You will first ascend to Syangboche airstrip and then to Khunde Village passing several Chortens. In a monastery lies the purported Yeti Scalp. Climbing up further to Everest View Hotel, you will enjoy a 360 degree view of the amazing peaks including Mount Everest. Then, we will go back to Namche Bazzar.
Day 4
Trek to Tengboche (3,790m)
Let’s go for an up and down path to Tengboche with an excellent view of peaks like Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse and Kwangde. We will pass the village of Sanasa and then the trail will be dropping down towards Phunki Thanga and climbing up sharply to Tengboche. The climb will pass through the forest of rhododendron, pine, fir, magnolia and birch that starts to thin out as the famous Tengboche monastery comes to view. The area is a cluster of few lodges, a bakery and the monastery. This is the best place for panoramic view of the peaks named earlier.
Day 5
Trek to Pheriche (4,280m)
An easy descent through rhododendron forest and across a bridge over Imja Khola to Pangboche. The route will continue to Pheriche, for a 3-4 hour trek in total. There is a rudimentary hospital run by Himalayan Rescue Association in Pheriche. It only opens in peak seasons (March-May and November-December). We will spend the night in Pheriche.
Day 6
Day trip to Nagarjun(5000m) and back to Pheriche
A 800m climb will take us to Nagarjun peak at 5000m altitude. You will enjoy some good views of the mountains including Mt. Makalu 5th highest mountain in the world. This hike usually helps with acclimatization. There are chances to see snow leopard on this 3-4 hour hike. Once you arrive there, you will admire the view from the top and descend down to Pherice.
Day 7
Trek to Lobuche (4,950m)
The gradual climb to Lobuche will be pleasant as we will get closer and closer to the snow clad giants. After a 45-60min hike, we will reach Thukla. There, we will make a stop for food and continue up to a flat area where several memorials dedicated to the climbers who died on Everest are erected. Then, we will climb out of the valley and descend to the yak pastures at Lobuche.
Day 8
Trek to Gorakshep (5160m) | Hike to EBC (5,545m)
We will pack light for a 2-2.5 hour trek to Gorakshep composed of both easy and hard parts. The path winds between boulders and will be rocky and slippery, but then you will be surrounded by huge mountains. You will see the highest glacier (Khumbu) along the way. After reaching Gorakshep, we will check into a lodge, eat something and head to EBC. Another 1-2 hour hike along Khumbu glacier will bring us to the base camp. The yellow tents of the climbers will become visible as we will reach EBC. Then, you might look around, take pictures, wright you name on boulders before heading back to Gorakshep.
Day 9
Climb Kalapathar (5400m) | Trek Down to Dingboche
You will notice when up in the Base Camp that the Everest is not completely visible. From Gorak Shep, we will walk down, up and up again to Kalapathar. We will climb up to Kalapather either sunrise or sunset time. It will take 1.5 to 2 hours. You will have the best view of Mount Everest, Nuptse and Changtse with a little of Lhotse from here. Then we will return to Gorakshep for food and descend to Dingboche.
Day 10
Trek to Chukkung (4,760m)
From Dingboche to Chukkung, the trek will be about 2 hour long and easy. Chukkung is a beautiful valley nestled between mountains like Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Imja Tse etc. You will appreciate a really good and close view of these mountains and their glaciers. The river Imja Khola runs past the Chukkung village where we will be lodging.
Day 11
Trek to Island Peak Base Camp (5,100m)

Day 12
Climb Island Peak | Return to Chhukung
We will walk toward the summit aroung 01:00 to 02:00am. It will take about 2 hours to reach the High camp, then we will climb the rock gully. We will follow a ridge-line to the summit glacier and climb up a steep snow slope to reach the summit. There, you will get an excellent view of the mountains. After spending some time htere, we will go back to high camp to base camp and all the way back to Chhukung.
Day 13
Trek back to Tengboche
From Chhukung, we will walk down towards Pangboche and take the same trail we took up to descend and then climb up again to reach Tengbochhe. After this 4-5 hour trek, we will spend the night in Tengboche.

  1. Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing
OMG this was trip of the lifetime. Nepal Eco Adventure, you are awesome….. I booked Everest Base Camp with Island Peak through Nepal Eco Adventure. I spoke with few different agencies and they were all independent agents working for few different traveling companies but when I called Nepal Eco Adventure, I spoke directly with the owner, Chhatra. He was very responsive in answering all of my questions. I could either speak with him via Viber or email. I went with my dad and when we landed in Kathmandu we had city guide, Raju waiting for us. Raju and driver took us to hotel and we spent one day just relaxing. They picked us up the next day and we spend the whole day touring Kathmandu. Raju was awesome city tour guide. Being with him was very educational. He spoke in details about the city, history etc.. and he was very pleasant, always happy with smile on his face. Thank you Raju. Later that day we met our Everest Base Camp guide Keshav. As soon as we met him, he was very accommodating. We asked him if he can come with us to our hotel room to check clothes we brought to make sure we were good. He was happy to do it. The next day we started actual trip by landing in Lukla, Tenzing–Hillary Airport, which was named by Discovery channel as the most dangerous airport in the world. Keshav was our main guide. We had two other people that carried our bags, Bisnu and Sataya. I’m not going to lie, trip was difficult but it was soooooooooo worth it and it was that much awesome because we had Keshav, Bisnu, and Sataya. There were 4 of us in a group, dad and I, and a couple. I was the slowest in the group lol. Even though sometimes group was hours ahead of me, at any point of our trip no one was left alone. I spent most time with Keshav since I was slowest one so he felt I needed the most attention lol. At some point I couldn’t even carry by bag (5 pound bag lol). I didn’t say anything to Keshav but he offered to help. He would even carry water for me. Sometimes I would rest every 10 minutes and he was so patient, never complaint. He always asked if I’m ok if I need anything. I even gave him my phone with all passwords to take pictures. I sometimes forgot that I even had a phone until he gives me back and then I look at the pictures. He captured some amazing moment without me noticing and those are usually the best On our way to Every Base Camp I got sick. It was just flu. He could easily told me that it is not his fault that I’m sick. He could’ve said to me that to stay at the lodge and wait for others. Actually he encouraged me to rest as long as I want to and he said that he would go with me to Everest Base Camp no matter how slow I’m. Sickness slowed me down a lot, but Keshav stuck with me and we made to the Base Camp and I’m so glad I did. Never did he complain or say something to discourage me. He understood that people come from far away it is everyone’s dream to make it to the Base Camp. The only thing he made me promise is that I tell him if I get dizzy. There were many times I didn’t leave my room because I wanted to rest and I even try to skip dinner and he sometimes gave me hard time for skipping dinner LoL. Love you Keshav. At some point we went through heavy fog and it was wet. I had my raincoat but my dad didn’t. Keshav gave his to my dad so he doesn’t get wet. It is easy to have 5 star service at some luxury place or hotel but to offer 5 star service in the middle of nowhere that just doesn’t exist. Sometimes when my group reached destination, Bisnu would come back to join me and Keshav. Remember this is steep uphill trekking and for him to come back to join Keshav and encourage me not to give up and go uphill again it is just amazing. Not only that, but when I went to Island Peak with my climbing guide (guide that summon Everest 7 times), Bisnu noticed that my dad was worried about me, so he went looking for me. This was not his responsibility. I guess you worry when you have kids. I never received service like this in my life and I travel a lot. These people are so honest, so nice. I never felt so comfortable being with strangers and in the middle of nowhere. You develop intimate friendships. They tell you their stories, they listen yours. Also couple that was with us were cool. We all got along so well. We were all like family. I would not change anything about this trip. My fellow travelers, please do not be skimpy about tipping. Tip well because these people really deserve it To Nepal Eco Adventure family…you are the best.
