Tibet Overland Tour


This 8 days Tibet overland tour is a fascinating journey which will let you enjoy some of the best Himalayan scene and cultural settlements of the high lands of the Himalayas. Lhasa (3650m) the capital city of Tibet is rich in cultural and natural beauty along with ancient cultural artifacts. Some of the famous sites of Lhasa are Potala palace, Sera monastery, Drepung monastery, Jokhang Tempale, Barkhor market and Norbulingka Palace, Summer Palace of Dalai Lama.

Enjoy cultural programs, evening sightseeing around the city and delicious dinner. Commencing tour into the Himalayan kingdom of Tibet will let you explore the natural and historical sightseeing and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Tibetan inhabitants.

Important Note:

It is very important that you arrive in Nepal at least 6 days before your trip starts so we can get your Chinese visa on time. Try to arrive on Sunday and we apply for visa on Monday by Friday visa will be ready and Saturday you can start the tour.


Day 1
Kathmandu-Kerung Border | 145km

Early in the morning, we will take a scenic drive to Kerung Border through the beautiful Nepalese countryside. After necessary border formalities at Nepalese immigration, we’ll go for a 1h adventurous drive by bus and van or a 2h walk uphill. In case of landslide to Chinese immigraton, we will check-in to hotel. Otherwise, we will keep driving to Kerung and stay overnight there.

Day 2
Kerung-Tingri (4300m)/Lhatse (4350m) | 225km/244km

We’ll drive uphill to the highest plateau of the world with a typical view of Tibetan landscape offering sheer feeling of standing on the roof of the world. From there, weather permitting, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panorama of beautiful Himalayan ranges including Mt Cho Oyu (8201m) and Mt Xishapagma (8012m) but dwarfed by the Vastness of the Tibetan plateau. From Tingri, you will admire the magnificence of Mt Everest (8848m). We’ll spend the night in a guesthouse.

Day 3
Tingri/Lhaste-Xigatse (3900m) | 244km

We will keep driving crossing over Gyatsu La (5220m), the highest pass en route to Lhasa via Lhatse, from where a road to Mt Kailash bifurcates to the west. We will stay overnight at Yak hotel.

Day 4
Xigatse-Gyantse (3950m) | 90km

We will go for a morning sightseeing to the Panchen Lama’s Tashilhumpu Monastery, then drive to Gyantse and visit the Kumbum Stupa & Phalkor Monastery. We will spend the night in a hotel in Gyantse.

Day 5
Gyantse-Lhasa (3650m) | 261km

This day is a full day picturesque drive crossing over Karola (5010m), Kambala (4749m), colorful Yamdrok-Tso lake and Tibetan lifeline river Brahma Putra (Yarlung Tsangpo). We’ll stay overnight at Flora Hotel.

Day 6
To 7 Sightseeing in Lhasa

You will have two full days to discover Lhasa, a sightseeing including Jokhang temple, Barkhor Bazaar, Potala Palace Drepung and Sera Monasteries. Overnight in a hotel.

Back to Kathmandu
