Surely, yes, but there may be a change in price. If you add some extra days for acclimatization, private transport, a porter, and improved accommodation, then the price exceeds the budget package of $1,150. 

Yes, the budget Manaslu trek is good for couples who do not mind using the teahouse facilities, traveling by public transport and carrying their own backpacks.

If you want to have some luxury, you could consider using a porter or a better means of transport without having to change packages completely. 

This is precisely why the package needs to be regarded as a supported budget trek rather than a self-guided trek.

Since there are restrictions on the area, you can't just remove the guide and permits from your expenses. The savings would be from cutting down on any additional comforts which would include private transport, porters, and luxury amenities in teahouses.

The cost of the Budget Manaslu Circuit Trek is USD 1,150 per person with Nepal Eco Adventure. This is the set price for the 12 days Budget Manaslu Circuit Trek on a group basis where you will trek together with other travelers and share the services included in the package. 

If you need a private trek, standard package or a customized tour, the price will depend on the group size, package services and the itinerary.

You need to allocate money for accommodation and food in Kathmandu, visa charges, international air tickets, personal expenses, drinks, shower costs, charging, tips, gear rental if required, travel insurance, and porter services as well as private jeep service. 

The difference lies in comfort and organizational logistics; there is no difference in the trekking route.

The budget package involves public transportation, simple tea-house accommodation, carrying your own backpack, and self arranged Kathmandu accommodation. The standard package offers private transportation and Kathmandu hotel accommodation along with porterage service. 

Yes, but only up to some extent. You get the most out of the costs by sharing the transport, traveling in a group, carrying your own backpack, having simple teahouse food and using less expensive services in the mountains.

There should be no attempt to reduce the cost in the case of a guide, permits and an insurance policy.  

Your extra budget depends upon your spending habits. You generally need additional money to spend on drinks, bathing, charging, WiFi, snacks, personal expenditure and tipping. So, carry around $250-400 extra cash per person which is converted to Nepali currency.

Tips are not part of the cost of the $1,150 package. The exact amount varies based on the size of your group, the quality of the services, the length of the trek and whether you hire a porter. It is better to budget for the tips separately from the rest of the expenses. 

For the Manaslu Circuit, you require the appropriate Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP), Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). 

The RAP is the permit that distinguishes this trek from the normal unrestricted teahouse treks in Nepal. All these permits will be arranged by our trekking company. 

No. The restricted area permit must be obtained through an approved/registered trekking company such as Nepal Eco Adventure. You can’t just show up at a check post and buy the permit on your own. 

Yes. It is mandatory to have a trekking guide for the restricted Manaslu region.

It is not an extra service that could be removed from your tour itinerary to reduce costs. Your guide will take care of logistics, permit procedures, accommodation booking and assistance if conditions change. 

Yes, in 2026, the minimum two trekkers policy for the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit was revised but the guide rule still applies. So, a solo trekker can join the restricted Manaslu trekking in the company of a licensed guide. 

Normally, the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is issued based on the number of days you spend inside the restricted area.

The initial permit is usually issued for 7 days. If the duration is more than a week, then additional fees for extra days must be paid. There is also variation in fees according to seasons. Hence, the duration and amount of the permit depend upon the itinerary and number of days of stay in the restricted area. 

Yes, 12 days are enough but a little bit quick itinerary. You will have one acclimatization day in Samagaon. But it is important to know that it is not a relaxed itinerary. The majority of walking days are 6-8 hours and the hardest day, Dharamsala–Larkya La–Bimthang, is supposed to take 8-10 hours. 

The highest point on the route is Larkya La Pass which is roughly 5,106 meters (16,752 feet) above sea level.  

The most difficult day on the Budget Manaslu Circuit Trekking Route is generally the journey from Dharamsala to Bimthang through Larkya La Pass. 

The trek begins at around 4,450 meters and climbs through the pass above 5,000 meters to descend to Bimthang. The combination of altitude, cold, distance, uneven terrain and a long walking day makes this the hardest section.

On most trekking days you will spend about 4-8 hours walking according to the altitude levels. The longest day of this itinerary is the Larkya La Pass section with an estimated walking time of about 8 to 10 hours. The total trekking time per day varies according to the weather, trail condition, group pace and need for breaks. 

This itinerary begins the trekking part from Machha Khola, accessed by bus from Kathmandu. The trek ends at Dharapani, after descending from Bimthang. From Dharapani, you go back to Kathmandu by road transport. 

Public transport is one of the most significant factors behind making this package a cheap one. Although a jeep will ensure greater comfort and flexibility, it would cost much more compared to a bus. In this regard, the bus is the suitable mode of transport for passengers who value budget over comfort.

Yes. You have the option to book a private Jeep ride with us. A private jeep from Kathmandu to Machha Khola costs USD 250 while a private jeep from Dharapani to Kathmandu costs USD 350. 

The trek is rated strenuous. You should feel comfortable with a number of days on the trail with long hikes and significant climbs and descents. The difficulty comes from the combination of long distance, varied terrain, limited facilities, high altitude, and the Larkya La Pass crossing.

It’s equally challenging. The difference is mainly that you carry your own backpack and use simpler logistics.

Don’t mistake this route for an easy trek as it is called a “budget trek”. Budget is about cost, not trek difficulty. 

Prior experience in trekking at high altitudes is helpful but not mandatory for a well-prepared, physically fit trekker. 

As long as you keep a slow and steady pace, have excellent physical health, an experienced guide and pack effectively, even novice trekkers can successfully make the journey.

• Walk with your backpack as you intend to carry on the trek.

If you’re usually inactive, make sure you have several weeks to develop endurance and don’t plan on getting fit immediately prior to travel. 

Yes. Fitness doesn’t protect you from altitude sickness. Altitude sickness is very much of a concern during this trek because you’ll reach an elevation of more than 5,000 meters.

To prevent this, your itinerary provides for one acclimatization day in Samagaon and a device for measuring oxygen levels, the oximeter. Likewise, you will have a guide to check your health status and acclimatization progress. 

You must inform your guide of any signs such as recurring headache, nausea, weird dizziness, extreme fatigue, or inability to walk and breathe properly.

The proper reaction to a serious altitude sickness problem could include halting your climb, descending and seeking medical help. Do not suppress the symptoms because you are too eager to finish the trek.

No. This budget trip does not come with porter services since the purpose of the plan is to offer you cheap trekking experience. You will be required to carry your backpack on your own unless you choose to hire a porter with us. 

Yes. Hiring a porter is optional and costs you USD 300 with a carrying capacity of 20 kilograms. Maybe investing in a porter is a better choice if you are unsure about carrying your own backpack at altitude.

The hire of porters depends on availability and other factors such as group logistics and the agreed carrying weight. It would be better to ask for a porter before going on the trek rather than waiting until you are already on the trail. 

It is not just the amount of luggage you can take along but how much of that you can actually carry with you while trekking for hours in the mountains.

Travel light; carry only those items that are essential for the trekking portion in your duffle bag and store all other items at the company's storage place in Kathmandu. 

Use of a good quality sleeping bag is advisable for the high altitude part of the journey.

The package includes the option to rent a sleeping bag if you don't have one with you. You have to pay $10 USD as a maintenance and washing charge and need to be returned after the trek is over.  

It is recommended to take along microspikes along with gaiters. You have the option to rent them from us for USD 15. However, the actual requirement is heavily dependent upon the prevailing snow/ice conditions at the time of trekking, particularly near Larkya La Pass. 

Yes. Down jackets are highly recommended on the Manaslu Circuit Trek, especially when climbing up to high altitude places like Samdo, Dharamsala and the Larkya La Pass. The temperature drops considerably during nighttime and near the pass. So, proper insulation is important for comfort and safety.

The accommodation during the trek is arranged in the local teahouses/lodges. It is basic rather than luxurious. The rooms in teahouses are simple and shared and facilities become fewer as you proceed to higher parts of the trail. 

The budget teahouse does not offer any bathrooms that are attached to your room. Bathrooms are generally shared.

Hot showers may be possible in some teahouses/lodges but it is not part of the package. You will have to pay for the hot showers which usually cost USD 2-6. 

There is Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity in some parts of the Manaslu Trek. However, it cannot be considered constant. It will get rarer as you venture deeper into the mountains.  

Of course, you may charge your phone in some teahouses while on the Manaslu trek. However, you need to make additional payments for that service and the cost is usually between USD 2 and 5, depending on the location.

It is always recommended to carry a portable battery and a power bank with you during the trip to make sure you don’t run out of charge. 

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided on the trekking days, along with tea or coffee.

The common teahouse menu consists of dal bhat, noodles, rice, pasta, soup, potatoes, eggs, Tibetan dishes, and basic trekking food depending on the lodge.

Yes. Many vegetarian options are available in plenty while trekking along the Manaslu route. It is best that you inform your guide about your specific diet prior to the start of the trek.

The best trekking seasons are autumn (September–November) and spring (March-May). 

October is usually the best month for clear views and good trekking weather and dry trail conditions. April and May are also excellent for trekking with warmer weather and blooming rhododendrons. 

June to August is not the best time for the high-altitude Manaslu trek. Rain can affect lower trails and road transportation. Likewise, clouds may make mountain viewing very difficult. There is also a high risk of landslides, muddy and slippery trails, and travel delays. 

It is possible to trek the Manaslu Circuit during the winter season with proper gear and a flexible schedule. However, the cold is much harder to cope with. 

Snow covers the trail and the Larkya La Pass crossing is particularly challenging which might get temporarily blocked due to snow accumulation. Likewise, at higher elevations, many lodges may be closed or offer limited services owing to severe cold weather.
