Overview

Everest base camp is one of the main dreams among many in most of the people. There two other different package of Everest base camp in our website, but this package is bit different from those packages we have in the website. Main reason behind creating this special package is targeting those people who just want to sign up with trekking with Nepal Eco Adventure. We have many people coming with interest of choosing just the trekking package without Kathmandu sightseeing tour. As some of you are coming here for the second time and you already have done this sightseeing tour. But apart from Kathmandu sightseeing tour if you are interested to do any other tour package with us you can feel free to customize the trip as well. For this trekking package you book your own hotels at Kathmandu and there is no pick up and drop included. S0, we just pick you from hour hotel to connect your flight to Lukla.

We created this trip in order to suit your holiday date as far as practicable. Everest base camp at the altitude of 5364m is awaited destination of many of you, so we hereby awaits to make your dream come true. Our guides, porters will assist you to make the trek safe, happy and as informative as you want. Apart from regular order, in case you have any problems with altitude and health overall while being in the Himalaya we will help you to evacuate instantly. As entire team on the field and office is in regular touch we will take your utmost care. As you change the height from 500 to 1000meters per day this trekking demands high physical stamina, insurance is compulsory as this is one of the challenging task you are facing. Scenery of this trekking is great for sure with many towering mountains like: Everest 8848m, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Pokalde, Pumori, Cholatse, Twaboche, Makalu, Barunse, Island peak, and many other. People; their culture and tradition resembles in the monasteries and Chhorten you see on the trail.

The trip begins with a 30 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla which is an entry point of the Everest Region. You start your trek from Lukla. On the way there are many tea houses in which you can stay and eat locally as well as Western food. The trail takes one through the green Dudhkosi Valley, which is rich in Flora and Fauna, Sherpa Villages, and Buddhist Monasteries. It leads one up to the legendary Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar where you spend two nights exploring and acclimating, an important factor for your safety and enjoys experience the Everest Base Camp trekking. Then you follow the trail to the villages of Tengboche, Pangboche, Dingboche, and Lobuche where Yaks can be seen grazing in the high meadows. Finally you reach the last human settlement, the village of Gorakshep, which is just two hours from Everest Base Camp. From here, you can see the Khumbu Ice Fall and interact with other mountaineers climbing the Everest. From Gorakshep your trail takes you to Kalapathar from where you have the best possible view of the Himalayan Range. This is your turn around point and you descend following the same trail with still more splendid, fascinating and breathtaking views that leaves you with a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Itinerary

Day 1
Day 01: Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2610m) - 4 hours

You will board a 30 minute flight to Lukla early in the morning and enjoy the magnificent mountain range as you arrive at Lukla airport. There, you will be introduced to your porter if you booked one. After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you will start trekking. The walk to Phakding is a fairly easy 3 hour walk through the Dudhkosi valley. You will head north from the airstrip to Chheplung (2700m) and cross the ThadoKoshi River on a local-style suspension bridge. Just past the bridge, you can see the peak Kusum and Kanggru (6367m), which are some of the most difficult trekking peaks to climb. Beyond the ThadoKoshi, the trail climbs towards the Ghat (2590m) and crosses a ridge marked with painted Mani stones. You will continue the ascend to reach the beautiful village of Phakding where you will stay overnight.

Day 2
Day 02 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3445m) - 6hours

You will start this second day through the Valley of Dudhkosi River. You will cross the Dudhkosi River 5 times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags on the way to Namche. After the last bridge, you will continue your ascent, gradually leading to Jorsale. It is a 2h30 climb up to Namche with two view points on the way. You will enjoy a mesmerizing view of Mt Everest on a clear day on the trail. At Jorsale, you will enter the Sagarmatha National park where you will need to verify your permits. After 5/6 hours of a hard walk, you will finally reach the main trading center of the region : Namche Bazaar.

Day 3
Day 03 : Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar (3445m) - 5 hours

Acclimatization is very important to avoid altitude sickness. You will go on a day hike through the villages of Khunde and Khumjung and come back to Namche through the Everest view hotel Khumjung. You can see the scalp of a Yeti in the monastery in the region. You will enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and other mountains on a fair day. After a savory breakfast, you will take a steep 1h climb to the Syangboche airstrip (3790m), from where you will slowly ascend towards Khunde passing numerous chorten (stone Buddhist monuments). From Khunde you will follow the trail eastwards to Khumjung, the largest village in the Khumbu region, at the foot of the sacred peak Khumbila. After having lunch at Khumjung, you will follow a gradual climb to Everest View Hotel where you will enjoy the splendid mountain views. Then you will descend to Namche to spend your second night there (3540m).

Day 4
Day 04 : Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3860m) - 5 hours

Your route to Tengboche weaves in and out of side valleys, making small ups and downs, to the teashops of Kenjoma, and joins the trail from Khumjung just before a collection of Mani stones. The views of Everest and Ama Dablam are stunning. You will pass the small settlement of Sanasa from where the trail drops towards Phunkithanga (3250m). From here the trail climbs steeply through pine forests and around Mani stones as it follows the side of a hill to the saddle on which the monastery of Tengboche sits at 3870m. The view from here is rightly deemed to be one of the world’s most magnificent sceneries. Kwangde (6187m), Tawachee (6542m), Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse (8501m), Amadablam, Kantega and Thamserku provide an inspiring panorama as the Himalayan giants. You will spend the night in the Tengboche village.

Day 5
Day 05 : Trek to Dingboche (4360m) - 4 hours

You will start your trek with a descent through a beautiful forest, then cross the Imja Khola and trek through the village of Pangboche. The route continues through summer pastures to Dingboche. You will spend the night at Dingboche. It is a very relaxing village with lots of mountain views. This is an easy 3/4h walk.

Day 6
Day 06 : Acclimatization in Dingboche (4360m) - 5 hours

You will start around 8:30am for a nice trek up to Chhukung. You will get a beautiful view of most of the mountains, especially Ama Dablam. The view from Chhukung and further up the valley on the moraines towards Island Peak is tremendous. To the south-west, the eastern face of Amadablam provides an incredible view of the picturesque peak. You will go back down to Dingboche for the night, probably facing strong winds.

Day 7
Day 07 : Trek to Lobuche (4930m) - 5 hours

You will start with a 1h30 climb to the Chorten trail. Then you will get to Thugla at 4600m to have lunch in a tea house, before climbing the steep part of the day’s trek for about 1h30. You will get closer to high mountains like Mt. Pumori and Mt. Nuptse after a while as you proceed towards Lobuche where only basic accommodation and food is provided. You will walk along a broad valley floor to Thugla, leaving behind the Trekkers Aid Post at Pheriche at 4240m. A western volunteer doctor, supported by The Himalayan Rescue Association is stationed here and offers treatment and consultation to trekkers as you continue up the valley gaining altitude. When you come out of the valley, you will descend to the yak pastures at Lobuche. Overnight at Lodge.

Day 8
Day 08 : Trek to Gorakshep (5160m) & Everest base camp (5364m) - 7 hours

You will go on a 2h hike up to Gorakshep in the morning. The first part is nice and easy but the trail gets harder 1h later, which is compensated by a really nice view on big walls formed by Everest, Nuptse and other mountains. Once you climb about 150m then the trail gets easier again. Shortly after, you will get to the moraine. Finally, you will get to the world’s highest settlement at Gorakshep. After having lunch, you will walk towards Everest base camp, on a side ridge of the Khumbu glacier. After walking on the ridge for about 1h30, you will cross the Glacier and enter the Everest base camp area. You will reach your final goal by trekking to Everest base camp at an altitude of 5364m. You will get a good view of Khumbu glacier and Khumbu Ice fall. From there you can also see the big crevasses in the climbing way. After appreciating your own efforts and photographing the achievements, you will walk back to Gorakshep.

Day 9
Day 09 : Trek to Kalapathar (5545m) & back to Pheriche (4280m) - 7 hours

You will go for a 2h hike to Kalapathar around 4:30am to get the chance to see the sun rising on the mountains and clear views of Mt. Everest and its surrounding peaks. Most of the famous photographs of Everest are taken from this “thump” on the landscape. You will need very warm clothes to go on this hike, as it will begin before sunrise. After having breakfast in Gorakshep, you will go down to Pheriche. Overnight at Lodge.

Day 10
Day 10 : Trek to Namche Bazaar - 6 hours

From Debuche, a 1h30 climb takes you to Tengboche, from where you will descend to Phunkithanga at 3200m. Then you will have a final climb towards Namche Bazaar for the final party night, which is also the last chance to have close-up views of the mountains. Following the same way back to Namche is an easy walk. Once you get to Namche you can appreciate a hot shower and wifi, as well as pasteries and beers in bakeries and bars.

Day 11
Day 11 : Trek back to Lukla - 8 hours

The trail from Namche to Lukla is mostly downhill to the flat part. You will exit the Sagarmatha National park and reach Lukla after a final effort climbing stairs. You will have the opportunity to have dinner with your guide and porter(s) and celebrate the end of your journey.

Day 12
Day 12 : Fly to Kathmandu from Lukla

You will fly to Kathmandu early in the morning, enjoying really nice views of most of the Himalayan range. Do not forget to choose the seat on the right hand sight of the aircraft. Finally you will reach Kathmandu airport, come to our office for a quick debfriefing and go back to your hotel to get some rest after this amazing 12 day trek.

Can I get Nepal visa on arrival or online?

Yes, you can get on arrival tourist visa at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Most of people can obtain visa on entry to Nepal. There are some countries visa will needed to be organize prior to traveling. $30 USD for 15 days of visa from the date of issue, $50 USD for 30 days and $125USD for 90 days tourist visa. When is the best time to visit Nepal?

How difficult is trekking in Nepal?

How long will be the trekking?

The trekking at the different parts of Nepal will be different according to the distance of the trekking destinations. Generally, there are different places where one can go for trekking and the duration of the trekking will generally goes for about 1 to 4 weeks. But the trekking at the different places like in city tours will be short but the trekking towards the base camp of the high hills will be generally long.

What is tea house and camping trekking in Nepal?

In Nepal, generally we can do two types of trekking. In the tea-houses trekking, we will do the trekking by resting the night at the lodges or the tea houses at different places of the trekking trails. The tea-houses trekking at Nepal will be comfortable than the camping trekking because the trekkers should not have to take any tensions regarding the accommodation and foods. But besides the tea-houses trekking, camping trekking in Nepal is also equally popular. The camping trekking will be based on the trekking where the night will be resting at the camps, where we will set up our camps at the different parts of the trekking trails for our convenience. We will have our meals at the camps and will rest the night at camps. As compared to the lodging trekking, camping trekking is a bit difficult.

What types of food will be served during the trekking?

While trekking in Nepal, meals are prepared in tea houses, good standards of hygiene, fruit and vegetable soaked in iodine water before cooked. The food along the trail will be simple and a mix of local and international cuisine. If the trekking is camping trekking, then the trekkers will mainly be served with the local foods of Nepal and as well as continental and western foods. Due to the lack of electricity and refrigerators along our trekking route you will eat a largely vegetarian diet. In Kathmandu you will find meals in good quality tourist restaurants. Most of lodges serve boiled and filter water which is safe. It is also possible to buy the bottle of mineral water in the trek.

Yes. Since we are Nepal based company we refer to arrange your international flights from your home. But domestic flight ticket and accommodation during the trek will be included in our package. If you like to organize individually river rafting, sightseeing tour, mountain flight, jungle safari can be organized according to your interest.

Do I really need trekking guide?

While visiting to Nepal, trekking guides is almost mandatory to trekking in Nepal for everyone. When you hired one your trip will lot more informative and memorable. You get lots of knowledge about country. But if the trekkers is well experienced and have visited at different places of Nepal many times then s/he may not need the trekking guides. But trekking guide can play big role to make your trekking They will provide information about the trekking destination along with its surroundings. Similarly, if any problems will arise during the trekking, then the guides will solve it easily and it will be rather difficult for the trekkers themselves to solve them.

Is trekking and travel safe in Nepal?

Do I need insurance for travel and trek in Nepal? Can I get it there?

You should buy medical and mountain evacuation insurance for trekking up to 5500m. General travel and medical insurance for traveling in Nepal. We suggest you to buy insurance policy in your country as we don´t have mountain rescue insurance over here in Nepal. Check with your home country travel insurance company which covers the rescue helicopter from the mountain up to 5500m.

Is there any telephone/internet facilities, when we are on the mountain?

In the way in most villages along the popular trekking routes you can find telephone for international call. Popular trekking area like Annapurna, Everest and Langtang area there good coverage of cell phones. and there internet cafe some lodges have wifi service.

What do I need to carry on trek?

A porter will carry your luggage and that belonging to your room-mate. Your clothing and sleeping bag must be placed in plastic bags inside your rucksack which must not weigh more than 25 pounds (12 kg) in total. You will be able to leave clothes and other baggage at our hotel in Kathmandu while away on trek.

Each trekker will carry a small day-sack, fleece jacket, water proofs, warm hat, sunhat, sun-cream, water bottle (or camel back system), first aid kit and water purification kit.

What in case of altitude sickness?

Altitude sickness is one of the major problems while you will trek high altitudes trekking destination of Nepal. But there are certain measures that can be applied while trekking at the high altitudes which help the trekkers to avoid the altitude sickness. Besides, if it will affects to any trekkers then there are several provisions for the first aid and other medicines to recover. If the condition of the trekkers gets worst, then he will immediately transfer to the nearby hospitals.

What happens if there is an emergency?

Our guides are trained with first aid and have basic knowledge about the physical problems that may arise during trekking. If an emergency occur then we will cover initial expenses of rescue operation as these expenses will need to be recovered from your insurance company. For minor cases there are health posts established by foreign doctors and many are staffed by overseas personnel.

You can bring power bars, cereal bars and similar high energy foods, powder Gatorade is also recommended to fight dehydration.

Do I need to bring First Aid Kit?

Our Guides carry a comprehensive medical kit. But you should bring your own personal kit and carry it with you when on the trek. It should contain antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, headache pills, diarrhoea treatment, re-hydration salts eg Dioralite, Lemsip, plasters and Compede for blisters.

What currency should I bring to Nepal?

We advise you to bring US dollars /British pounds/Euros to pay for your visa, trip cost and other expenses. most major currencies are usually accepted also. It is always better to travel with US dollars.

Does Nepal has good quality banking facilities?

Nepal has reasonable banking facilities having branches of some international local commercial banks Almost all foreign currency along with credit card such as Visa and Master card are broadly accepted. ATM is widely available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. There are some ATM in bigger town on treks. when you go remote area idea to carry enough cash. some trekking area has bank and ATM, they might not be reliable.

What are the main Nepali customs to know about?

What are your payment terms?

You need to pay 20% of total price as advance deposit to confirm reservation before arriving to Nepal and remaining balance of the payment shall be paid when you arrive to Kathmandu.

What essential documents/items do I need to bring with me?

You must bring a valid passport (must be valid for up to 6 months, keep an extra photocopy just in case), a copy of your travel insurance, cash, flight tickets, emergency contact numbers of insurance and family members and any medications.

How much extra spending money should I bring?

This depends on the destination you will travel or trek. There is something you spend your money on throughout the trek other than the alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, Hot shower on the trek, Tipping and shop round on the trek. On the other hand Kathmandu is a shopper’s paradise.. Frequently purchased items include hand-woven Tibetan carpets, hand knit woollen goods, hats, outdoor clothing and equipment, cashmere clothing, shawls, pashminas, Buddhist memorabilia, carved masks, puppets, wood carvings and jewellery etc. we suggest you to bring $200-$350 US dollar. You can only buy Nepalese Rupees in Nepal. There are ATM’s in Kathmandu where you can withdraw Nepalese Rupees Credit cards can be used to purchase expensive items but there will be an additional charge for this service.

Are Nepal Eco Adventure guides/porters insured?

Yes our company trekking staff including guides, porters, cooks, Sherpas all of them are insured. we have bought insurance for all our staff from IME General Insurance. Their insurance cover up to $10000 USD.

How much should I tip to my guide and porter?

Tips do not form any part of the wages of guides,porters and other trekking crews. but they are expected by the porters, guide, Sherpa and cook. it is a nice way of saying thank-you to someone who will play a large part in your trekking experience and who will prove invaluable to you on this trip. Our porters and guides will be paid more than working for other big tour and trek companies. we suggest to tip 10-20% of total trip cost. This amount must be given in Nepalese rupee. The porters live in small hill villages several days walking from the nearest bank or money changer. I will suggest you to be generous about tipping job they have done for you.
